Alistair Duff

Alistair S. Duff read philosophy at the Universities of London and Glasgow. He was a tutor in the politics department at Glasgow and then served as research officer at a non-profit NGO. Duff subsequently completed a master’s degree in information science and worked professionally in academic librarianship. In 1994, he became a doctoral researcher and lecturer in information management at Napier University (since renamed Edinburgh Napier University), where he is now professor in information policy. Among other visiting appointments, he has been a summer-school lecturer at the University of Zurich and a visiting fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute. He is the author of Information Society Studies (Routledge, 2000) and A Normative Theory of the Information Society (Routledge, 2012), as well as numerous articles in journals, encyclopaedias and newspapers. He is currently principal investigator on a UK Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded project entitled Informing the Good Society: New Directions in Information Policy.
